Therapy that goes beyond a band-aid

I have nearly 25 years of experience treating adults seeking relief and healing from a wide variety of distresses. Over the years my practice has evolved to specialize in treating and bringing healing for the emotional and psychological effects of trauma, such as early years abuse, violence, workplace injuries, and developmental injury in one’s early years. I also can bring help relief and healing from sexual difficulties in men and women, and coaching couples to improve their intimacy, satisfaction and enjoyment of their relationship. Over the years I can accumulated a wealth of experience treating chronic anxiety, chronic stress, chronic pain and helping people recover from depression.

I earned a Masters degree in Counselling from Providence Seminary and an  Ed.D. (doctorate) in Counselling Psychology from Argosy University, Sarasota. I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Ontario Psychotherapists (R#006757); a  Certified Counsellor and Supervisor with the Professional Association of Canadian Christian Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I have advanced training beyond those educational degrees honing my skills in EMDR Therapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. These therapies go beyond ‘talk therapy’ to get at the source of a person’s distress and change and resolve the emotional and somatic (body) responses that lead to problematic choices, behaviours and relational difficulties.

I have continued to take advanced training in Complex Trauma and Dissociative Disorders, treating recent and ongoing trauma, and Acute Stabilization procedures. I have specific training in treating early (preverbal) trauma, certification in clinical counselling hypnotherapy, the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, and Trauma Informed Relationships. I have training in neurofeeback and biofeedback techniques, and am well versed in Ego States Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique as well as applying advances in interpersonal neuroscience.

Most recently I am very excited about completing Level One training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and currently receiving training in Advanced Trauma and Dissociation treating using Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. This is a body-oriented therapy that addresses trauma and developmental injuries. This cutting edge approach integrates the modern understanding that trauma is primarily a nervous system i.e. body issue.
